Tipps and Tricks


1. Have some money in CASH available

        You will need cash at these places:

  • Ferry from the trainstation in Hallstatt (4€ as of 2025) & also big ships for the round trips
  • Boat rentals for private electric boats
  • Most small fast food shops
  • Some restaurants (e.g. Bräugasthof)
  • Some souvenir shops
  • Public WC (usually 1€)

2. Be prepared to walk some distances
Hallstatt is a rural town on the mountain side which means there can be a bit of a distance between some places, and also height differences to climb!

  • The centre of Hallstatt is a traffic restricted area - you will not be able to drive directly into the center.
  • Local taxi are available and they can drive directly into the center.
  • Not everything will be easy and fully accessible (especially when traveling in a wheelchair)

3. Parking in Hallstatt

If you arrive by car, then it is best to park at the P1 parking lot. (Salinenpl. 4, 4830 Hallstatt)

  • Please show the parking guard your booking confirmation, then you will get a spot much faster.
  • From P1 a Shuttle will take you to the centre of Hallstatt, 500 meters from the apartment. (8:30 - 19:00)
  • At departure the shuttle will take you back to P1. (Directly from the apartment until 11:30am)
  • Keep your parking ticket on hand, you will need to show your parking ticket from P1 to the shuttle driver.

Please note that there is a parking fee on all parking lots in Hallstatt.

3. Public Transports

  • The public transport connections to Hallstatt stop before 19:00
  • If you arrive later than 19:00, then please contact us and we will let you know how you can still get to the apartment!

4. Restaurants in Hallstatt

  • Generally we would recommend to go for Dinner rather early in Hallstatt, because everything closes pretty early.
  • From our experience it is also easier to get a table at 17:30, than at 19:30. If possible make a reservation in advance.
  • Please note that some restaurants only take cash, especially small fast food shops.
